BIAL Bangalore BIAL

I wonder if anyone has seen photos of the Hyderabad International Airport. http://www.hyderabad.aero/information/live_footage.html Its design looks a generation ahead of BIAL which seems drab in comparison. Even from a practicality standpoint, the lack of multi-level arrival and departure concourses at BIAL itself is likely to result in tremendous chaos.

BIAL

thanks for bringing this up. early in the year, i had written to them about vertical separation (multilevel), a few weeks later they responded: me: On the landside, BIAL has arrival and departure traffic at the same level and and according to information on BIAL website, there is no separation of incoming and outgoing traffic. Given, the current and projected air traffic levels in Bangalore, this could potentially lead to congestion on the landside and thus lead to customer dissatisfaction regarding facilities and service at BIAL. While it may be too late to achieve, vertical segregation, are there any plans of horizontal segregation of arrival and departure traffic? BIAL: The landside traffic is planned in line with the concept of the passenger movement in the terminal. There is a segregation of the departure and arrival traffic planned on the landside to ease the travel of the passengers as well as the visitors. Hope this clarifies your doubt. basically, road side is planned in accordance to the layout of the terminal. the terminal and the flow itself will have to be altered to fit a multilevel road side. BIAL I think designed for horizontal separation , like JFK terminal 4, which opened in 2001, and handled more than 6 mill pass in 2004, now that was the initial design estimate of BIAL. BIAL is already doing that number and more. the question is does this scale? it is possible that it can still be managed, but it will all depend on the flow of traffic in front of the terminal and how it is managed. BIAL front space is much longer than HAL. any how check the first 400 frames of this... http://bialairport.com/img/flash/video01.htm 6 lanes in front of the terminal, separated by an overhang in the middle. i am guessing 3 are for arrival and three are for departure. apart from this there is a bus bay. i was trying to understand the flow of traffic but i am not able to get details from masterplan because it is a low resolution pdf. can you make out how the traffic will flow from this image? blrsri.. Multi level arrival and departure is very much necessary for many reasons..including better management of the vehicular and people movement what other reasons, can you explain?

my take..

As we know Aerobridges are always one floor high and having departures on that level is logically feasable..our handbags are relatively heavy and lugging them over escalators/steps could be a problem Taxi stands for pick-up can be seperate..where people need not walk far for getting into a taxi..the BMTC volvo's could have come to the apt door step! Security management is relatively easy Relatives/friends management is easy About terminal 4..found this on the net.. http://www.som.com/content.cfm/jfk_international_airport_international_arrivals_building_terminal_4 there is a link for pictures..which shows busses in one level etc..if we are also doing that then its erally good but look at the foto on the landing page which is of the departures section..there is already 3 lane parking/stopping!

BIAL Design

Well well I had written about this to BIAL long long ago. The warehouse kind of look that they had on mind was very disturbing especially for Bangalore which has such amazing buildings. If they had followed a traditional approach that was different too. But the reply I got was none. Guess no body bothers to reply on that site. As far as Hyderabad's design - yes its truly awesome and guess made to handle people movement easily interms of departures and arrivals. But I was looking at Atlanta International (ATL) which is the worlds busiest airport even today - the design is almost like that of BIAL - and they handle 85million passengers PA - single level but very very efficient. Hope BIAL has such a plan.. as far as the inside goes I guess I have started loving the design of BIAL - I agree with tarle - its very nice.

incredible!

Yes, the design seems to be way better than BIAL! I was a lil upset when Praful Patel commented about the 'Industry' look of BIAl. But it seems to be true..indeed the GMR apt is better by design. Multi level arrival and departure is very much necessary for many reasons..including better management of the vehicular and people movement..thats glaringly missing at BIAL.. I can again imagine the commotion that happens at the current HAl airport entrance now happening at the BIAL starting from Day 1.. It is incredibly stupid to have missed on something as basic!
