ar_t_kaushik - 18-DEC-2008Hi all, So far we have been discussing about skywalks and subways, which are most of the time not used due to accessibility and safety. The major reason for introducing pedestrian bridges is to make Bangalore USER FRIENDLY.. More usability, more functional a space will always help in the growth of the city. |
Urban development - the skill gap silkboard - 2-DEC-2008
Time for a boring post. A habitual visitor to MoUD website, I was waiting to put up a small summary of a policy paper that showed up recently. Its called "Capacity building scheme for urban ...". If that was all greek and latin to you, jump to section 3 (page 9) on that pdf, and under "specific capacity gaps", find things that you and me complain about everyday - they don't know how to plan, how to run projects, how to handle public relations etc etc etc. |

I bought the Booker Award winning book by Arundhati Roy in 1997, but could not complete reading it. However I did not realize this Man Booker award winning "white Tiger" by Arvind Adiga was something different. It is not just different but earth shaking. |

Tagore Circle Underpass – Moving Bottlenecks in Basavanagudi Naveen - 8-NOV-2008
As can be seen from the diagram, what this will do is invite even more traffic through MN Krishnarao Rd (diagonal road), BP Wadia Rd as also on Gandhi Bazaar Rd . Soon, there will be a need for another underpass or flyover at Indian Institute of World Culture, followed up further by another at the DVG Rd–Gandhi Bazaar Rd intersection, & so on so forth ! |

If you want to imagine how the elevated highway is going to look post completion, start with few month old pictures from foto sun @ flickr (see below). The one on right is my favorite though. |
Obama win - whats' in it for Bengaluru mcadambi - 5-NOV-2008
The recent win of Senator Barack Obama has certainly changed the core nature of the United States. That an African American could be elected to the Presidency is a far contrast to the time before 1965 when African Americans could not even vote. |
Health care - systemic crisis? navshot - 15-OCT-2008Do you live in Bangalore? Were you or someone in your family hospitalized in recent times? Do you have an insurance cover? If the answers to all the above questions are 'yes', then there is a great chance that you (and/or insurance company) paid an inflated bill. Worse still, there is a chance the hospitalization was not required in the first place! |
