City Buses in PPP mode - Bhubaneswar. Why not Mysore? silkboard - 3-NOV-2011
Did you know that Bhubaneswar operates Buses in PPP model? They may be planning a BRT too in PPP or outsourced model (see another post for details). Any idea on population and size of Bbsr? 9 lakhs, 135 sqkm. Mysooru? Almost the same, close to 10 lakhs, 130 sqkm. My 25 km one way daily commute for the past 10 months has meant covering a swathe of Bangalore's suburuban areas. A common observation during this time has been seeing 2-3 BMTC buses broken down every day. This includes buses across the spectrum. Ordinary buses ranging from old to the relatively new JNNURM ones, Janti Vahanas (trailer buses), Volvos, Marco Polos etc. |

The real cost of building Metro - elevated? silkboard - 21-OCT-2011
It is Metro time, and papers are full of statements from babus and netas of our city that say that "we didn't go underground because the cost was very high". But then, some citizens say - what about the cost we pay due to inconvenience? Wouldn't that 'hidden cost' tilt the balance in favour of underground? How about putting some numbers to these arguments? |

BMTC Buses - volvo vs marcopolo rashmi - 17-OCT-2011
Hi, I catch 201 bus regularly. There are three buses available, one is 201R (normal bmtc bus) with fare around Rs.12, other one 201R(volvo) with fare Rs.30. I was told that since volvo has A.C. facility and other better facilities, it costs almost double. I dont need an AC bus for a short journey. |

Loss of Moral Authority in Police rs - 13-OCT-2011
I saw the following scene on my way to work. I was driving along Chord road. At one of the intersections I stopped at a signal which was also being manned by a policeman. While I had stopped, a motorcyclist from the other direction ran a red light right in front of the cop. |

Karnataka High Court Judgement on Land Acquisition for PRR kizarmd786 - 14-SEP-2011
It is quite unfortunate that the Honourable High Court of Karnataka had quashed the BDA recent preliminary Notification for acquisition of 372 acres of land in connection with the formation of Peripheral Ring Road to ease the vehicular traffic. BDA wanted this extent of land for approach roads and Toll Plazas. Further, they needed land for forming FLY OVERS. |
