Public works - workings and problems

silkboard - 8-NOV-2009

This is to understand and the criticize the way this whole public tendering and works process works. Not as sexy a topic as Roads, Flyovers or Airports, but this is where it all happens - execution matters most. Most corruption also happens here as this is the place where money changes hands. Citizen involvement (lack of it) plays here - as work must be checked for quality.

ORR bottleneck - Bhadrappa Layout

idontspam - 7-NOV-2009

It is a good move by BDA to make the ORR Bhadrappa layout junction signal free. This junction assumes significance due to the fact that most of Sanjaynagar and RMV layout and gazillion other layouts in between use the Dr Rajagopal road/Gundappa road to reach ORR go towards the airport.

Indiranagar Metro in progress

psaram42 - 6-NOV-2009

We had a nice meeting with Nathan and Kiran of Biome Environmental solutions where a lot of discussions took place about the concept note on Indiranagar Metro project in the context of forthcoming Mobil city Un-conference at IISc. The Metro passes through CMH and 100 ft roads in Indiranagar. We in Indiranagar are quite familiar with the Metro by now.

The Koramangala 'lake' saga

murali772 - 5-NOV-2009

There is the huge tract of land of 37 acres on the left when you come down BDA complex in Koramangala, while heading towards Wipro park. Just last week the Chief Minister has denotified the entire land in favour of the erstwhile land lord, inspite of orders at the Supreme Court level against any such act.

A total breakdown of urban planning - A microscopic look at the lowest level

blrpraj - 4-NOV-2009

When we look at Bangalore and see it's overburdened infrastructure falling apart (be it water, roads, power, footpath etc.) , one cannot help but think how we got to this point in the first place, since recognising the problem and it's causes is one of the first steps in effectively proposing and designing a solution to remedy the problem.

Unpaid traffic fines - a survey

s_yajaman - 29-OCT-2009

Was checking if there were any fines against my car's number at www.btis.in.  None.  Then I decided to do a random sampling of cars on unpaid fines.

Did a random sample of 100 cars across the 5 RTOs for unpaid violations and fine amounts.  This would be fairly representative as the number is quite large for a sample.

Auto Issues

rs - 28-OCT-2009

In todays Wall Street journal there was an article on the fact that the old cabbies in Bombay are beating up Meru Cab drivers because people prefer to take Meru cabs -

Ecological Roads

psaram42 - 27-OCT-2009

“Today SM Krishna is having a field day at Leela Palace with the Russian and Chinese counterparts. There may be other very important issues other than ER.”

Speaking Kannada In Bengalooru

drvk@in.com - 23-OCT-2009

I am a kannadiga and have noticed that kannadigas hesitate a lot to assert their identity and get blended with the society where ever they go. If kannadigas (especially the educated ones) stop speaking kannada to their own people as it is happening now, the future for our language appears bleak.
