The plan to build a large, formal bus stand for Mangalore had been conceived some years ago. Mangalore's original bus stand at Hampankatta had been too small with no scope for any expansion as it had been sandwiched right in the heart of town (CBD). Hence, KSRTC had shifted out to a newer facility of it's own long ago, however private buses continued to use the same bus-stand. With efflux of time, increased number of buses & severe congestion, the inter-city bus stand was moved to Statebank, close to the fishing harbour, which had long been the terminus for intra-city buses (The Hampankatta bus stand is now a convenient parking facility). Within a few years, due to increasing growth rate/s, much higher number of buses & space constraints, the need for a much larger facility was becoming more & more acute. |
DCE- DTU Controversy - An Alumnus' Perspective shekhar_mittal - 15-MAR-2010
It has turned into a fortress. From the looks of it more than 300 cops have been deployed. In its almost 60 year history, that too in the middle of the internal examinations, for the first time Delhi College of Engineering is witnessing a student strike! |

India has a total land area of 328 Million Hectare (MH), out of which 162 MH have already come in to cultivation. This is a high percentage of 51% of the total land of the country. The forest and natural vegetation area is about 19.25%, which is less than an optimum of about 33.33%. Photographic proof from satellite imaginary seems to have proved this beyond doubt. Forest (green) is important for keeping the CO2 balance in the atmosphere. |

I came across this interesting document while surfing around on the BBMP website for Qtr2 09-10. It is a fairly large report sent to quarterly to the central government on the status of various JNNURM projects implemented by the BBMP. It makes interesting reading. I think a careful perusla and analysis will shed a lot of light on how projects are run and the attitude of the govt officials towards the public. Here is a snapshot from the item on the Tagore circle underpass. Tender release date: 25/09/2007, Scheduled date: October 2008 Budget: 2318 lakhs Reason for delay: Project not started due to non-cooperation by the public.MLA intervention is sought. Issue is being "solved".
Eh? The public is an impediment. in the path of progress. A problem! Link to the report here. |

Railway Budget Disappointing for Karnataka Sanjeev - 26-FEB-2010
Rail Budget 2010-11 from the outset looks good for Karnataka, its good job done by Mamtha & K H Muniyappa as Window Dressing for Karnataka. PPP model is no finalised & will require Cabinet approval, so nothing will come in next 1-2 years on this. |

I saw 2 months back, Madiwala police station bus stop has been relocated to madiwala market with a better infrastructure. What I mean is there is a laybye for buses to stop , at least 3 buses at a time. It was also tarred, I guess at least with cost of 10 lakhs. It had also a footpath-cum-waiting place for passengers. |
How to cross Hosur Road below Elevated Expressway gsvasan - 19-FEB-2010
There is no easy way for people on the ground to cross express way (Hosur Road) by bus and cycle. One needs to walk or traverse a long distance to cross the elevated expressway as there is no footpath. For example if you got to building say across pier 26, u need to cycle or walk to pier 51 and come all the way back. What can we do about this? are the roads not for common people? |
Last mile connectivity – panacea for most PT problems ashfaq syed - 15-FEB-2010
The results of the recently concluded praja survey to find why people don’t use PT, shows that the last mile connectivity is the issue for only 10% of the people. I was surprised and so did so many praja members commenting on the survey results. Well, once I analyzed the comments, I realized that it is not 10% but, it is actually more than 60% and people di |
